Justin is a Culinary Scientist at Render and Pilot R&D. Justin works closely with the Render founders and Render's chef partners to perfect each formulation.  

Justin attended UC Davis, along with Render Co-Founder and Chief Science Officer Ali Bouzari, and earned his master’s degree in beer and brewing science. After completing his thesis on the stability of beer foams and specialty malts, Justin began his brewing career at the Russian River Brewing Company in Santa Rosa, eventually becoming the lead brewer. While at Russian River, Justin gained an appreciation for the intricacies of the multi-stage fermentation of sour beer. After leaving Russian River, Justin went on to establish a quality assurance program at Half Acre Beer Company in Chicago. During his time at Half Acre, Justin became an integral member of Half Acre’s research and development team and optimized their sour beer and barrel aging methods. 

Justin brings his wealth of food science and fermentation expertise to bear on both Render product and Pilot projects.
